This month I wanted to focus on the art from the Art Auction last month. Needless to say, it was a huge success. 25 pieces sold for a total of nearly $900. All of the money was given to 10 college students as scholarships to allow them to go to a retreat over Spring Break and do an in-depth study of the Bible. trip later this month. I’ve included some photos of a few of the pieces that sold. If you came I’d like to thank you again, especially those of you who purchased pieces.

Here is one of the pieces that sold, the way it was painted is actually quite unique and part of an art illustration done at Living Stones at Grace Church in Reno earlier last year.

Stories from the Heart : One Year Anniversary

Some projects from my supporters can really strike a chord deep within. This was one of those projects. I was commissioned by one of my supporters to create a painting as a gift for a one year anniversary they were celebrating. I was given a personal story and a vision of composition but little other direction. They both loved it and I was honored to have worked on it for them.

Another month is upon us and more and more projects are continuing to change hearts and the community for the better. Each month new ideas become new realities and seem to surprise even me.

Continued Milestones

I’ll try to put samples from these art packages in each newsletter so everyone can see the interesting graphics that have been paired with relevant messages at Milestone Church each month.

The Power of Prayer

This is a painting I got to work on for the group Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. It was part of a larger project in which 8 other artists painted a picture depicting what prayer represents to them. They were cut into puzzle pieces and 17 smaller groups wrote on the pieces thoughts about prayer. They were put back together during a time of musical worship and left throughout a message and time of reflection. My idea for the painting comes from these passages in the Bible: Psalms 141:1-2 and Revelations 8:3-4.

Humble Beginnings

Family is one of my favorite areas of support, it keeps us close and helps us support one another. This is some of the work I’ve been doing for my sister and her new clothing line called Humble Ink. it should be a real success and draws it’s influence from urban art and music.

Stories from the Heart : Return to Catalina Island

It’s that time of year again, time for SPRING BREAK! Every year a large group of students from Intervarsity Christian Fellowship go to Catalina Island of the coast of L.A. for a week long camp. At the camp students spend half the time basking in the warm California sun and enjoying the breathtaking scenery of the island. The other half is devoted to an in-depth manuscript study of the Gospel of Mark. You must be thinking, “How can these guys spend their time off from school STUDYING?” I’d say it’s more than worth it.

The students spend their time in a private area of the island known as Campus by the Sea. With (almost) every luxury a college student could want or need, the island always brings about incredible life changes. Spending time with other students reading through the Bible and praying together, learning the truth about Jesus and what he has to say about them and the rest of the world. There is time to find healing in the most hidden places of their hearts, time to meet people who genuinely love them and care about who they are and what they’ve been through. I’m headed back to this island at the end of the month and I’m really anxious to see lives be transformed right before my eyes and perhaps find some healing of my own at the same time.

Here are just a handful of projects that support has made possible this last month. It’s been a slow start, but every small step has ended up being a big one. I’ve been really able to see the impact that just a little art and time can really have on a much larger scale and I am excited about the possibilities that I’ve seen brought to light this month.

I was able to do a pretty amazing art piece this last Christmas eve at Grace Community Church here in Reno. It was done with light activated glow in the dark paint and stencils and was painted entirely with flashlights and UV lights. It was accompanied by an incredible song performed by Rachel Turner. Here’s the video in case you missed it.

Making Milestones

Milestone Church is one of my supporters this year. They are a small church here in Reno doing big things. Each month I produce an art package for them that encompasses their current message series. It provides an innovative and fresh visual to the sermon each week.

Good for Gambia

At the end of the year I chose to donate all of the art hanging in my house to an auction. It raised over a few hundred dollars to help send a group to the Gambia in Africa this past month. While they were there the group did all kinds of humanitarian efforts to help the people in that area.

Subtly Sinister

I’ve been doing some T-shirt designs for a Tattoo Shop called Sinister Ink. It’s the place where I got my first tattoo and they are another supporter of mine. They are putting a series of shirts that promote a drug and alcohol free lifestyle. The designs are tattoo inspired and should be a real success.

Breaking Hearts

A good friend of mine and very talented musician, Randall Meyer is releasing his new album next month and I was able to do the artwork for the album. The music is very inspirational and should have a great impact in many peoples lives.

Stories from the Heart – January 2008

At the young age of just 16-years-old, a close friend of mine, someone who has been with me since high school, took her last breath. She was my ’92 Toyota Corolla, my first car. There were a lot of memories with that car and it almost ran 200,000 miles. I was afraid that without a car that I might have to quit my job and find a new job closer to home, but I was able to find an incredible deal on a ’96 Ford Explorer, and quickly too. I’ve been saying it’s my ‘almost’ dream car. For some reason, I’ve always wanted a Chevy Blazer, this is close enough for me. I just love it and hope it will last me until I graduate from UNR, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
